The Film Documentary Team
Denise Gula-Weller (Choreographer, Writer, Co-producer)
Denise has created several artistic works that bring attention to serious social issues including Silent Witness, a work that creates awareness to the surrounding domestic violence; Journey, a musical theatre and dance production that follows the American history of Slavery through the Civil Rights Era and; Dead Zone, an anti-drug piece. "I believe that through the arts we can effect significant change. I created Blood Stripe as an original stage work to tell the story of what life is like for the caregivers of combat veterans suffering from TBI and/or PTSD. Following the success of the stage premiere, I realized a broader platform for creating awareness and delivering the message of education to spouses of veterans suffering TBI and PTSD was necessary. This has galvanized me to create a filmed documentary of both the creation of Blood Stripe and the experiences of people whose lives inspired it."

About Hearts of Patriots
When Veterans return suffering from PTSD and/or TBI, their transition into civilian life is challenging at best. The spouse/caregiver is the closest to the Veteran and in the greatest position of helping to “manage” the Veteran's PTSD and TBI symptoms. Educating the spouse who provides caregiver support to the Veteran lessons the chance they and their families will become one of the devastating statistics associated with combat Veterans.
