CARING for CAREGIVERS
Sometimes, all it takes is being seen. That’s why Hearts of Patriots’ signature program offers caregivers a year of correspondence and community — either through our organization or through one of our five-star volunteers — that can develop into a permanent bond. We recognize that caring for a veteran with PTSD or a traumatic brain injury can be confusing, isolating, and overwhelming at times. As the person closest to a veteran’s support, your well-being is critical to the health and the welfare of your family and everyone around them. The program is free — all you need to do is sign up. Caregivers receive a welcome package that includes a Hearts of Patriots mug, pin and T-shirt, a $5 Starbucks gift card, resources for dealing with PTSD and TBI and more. You'll also receive access to Hearts of Patriots private Facebook group, regular correspondences, cards and other gestures of appreciation. |
Five Star Volunteers
We are also seeking dedicated individuals willing to serve as Five Star Volunteers. As a volunteer, your ongoing contact validates the daily sacrifices caregivers make for their veterans and their families. Something as simple as a card, email or personal holiday greeting can make a world of difference in the life of someone caring for a loved one with PTSD or a traumatic brain injury. This pen pal-style program is a great opportunity for Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, VFW Post Auxiliaries, someone looking for a meaningful service project or anyone who cares about our country to make a real difference for our hidden heroes. We ask that you correspond with your assigned caregiver throughout the year (six to 12 times or more) with hand written letters/note cards, a text or email, personalized greeting cards, birthday and holiday wishes. |
About Hearts of Patriots
When veterans return suffering from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury or both, their transition into civilian can be especially difficult. Co-founded by the wife of a Marine who served in Iraq, Hearts of Patriots understands the challenges faced by caregivers of veterans with invisible wounds of war. |
Our mission is to provide education, resources and support to these hidden heroes. We are committed to helping spouses of veterans with PTSD and TBI care for themselves, because we know that self-care is essential to caring for others.
