FAQ'S

cHECK ELIGIBILITY
1. You must be a resident of the city of Elyria.
2. You must submit proof of service (DD214).
3. Demonstrate financial assistance need. (Quality of life for your family has been impacted by circumstances contributing to financial strain or emergency.)
4. Designated vendor is legally able to receive taxable income in the U.S. (a citizen, green card holder, and/or TIN)

WHAT AMOUNT COULD I RECEIVE?
Depending on need, each application will be reviewed by the HOP staff, and decisions made on a case-by-case basis.
HOW WE DEFINE  "FINANCIAL NEED"
(Do I need to qualify based on government poverty guidelines)
You do not have to meet the standards of government poverty guidelines to receive help from this grant. HOP recognizes that the extras frequently considered non-essential contribute to the quality of life. When finances are tight or unexpected expenses arise, "these extras" are eliminated.

When children do not engage in regularly scheduled activities as described above, their social, emotional, and academic growth are often impaired, negatively impacting them. Activities such as music, dance, art, and sports are vital to the child's quality of life and overall well-being.
 Examples of Grant requests
  • Scholarships/activity fees for kids programs including art, music, dance, sports, and needed equipment
  • Tools (Woodworking, repair, or other types to support side jobs or do home repairs)
  • Needed replacement items, for exp. appliance, mattress, equipment
  • Self-care
How is FINANCIAL SUPPORT PROVIDED ?
Hearts of Patriots will distribute funds directly to the vendor, retail outlet, business, or organization providing items covered by the grant
Do I need to pay taxes on the grant?
No, all funds are distributed directly to the vendor

HEARTS OF PATRIOTS RECEIVES AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT
(ARPA) FUNDS

Picture
The City of Elyria has awarded Hearts of Patriots a $10,000 ARPA grant. The funds will provide financial assistance to Elyria City military family residents that help improve the quality of life supporting programs or opportunities that are limited when basic needs take priority.
Hearts of Patriots will prioritize scholarships for military kids to participate in enrichment programs their families are not financially able to support. Where there is a financial need, other requests will be considered.
Hearts of Patriots works closely with the Veteran Service Commission and other agencies to  make sure we are not duplicating services. HOP does not provide support for Basic financial emergencies that are available through other  agencies. HOP will consider all requests in circumstances that are outside the agencies eligibility requirements. The purpose of this funding is to fill gaps that other programs may not cover.
